Kevin Viveros back in focus after Villa’s previous transfer link

The Aston Villa Kevin Viveros transfer link is back in focus. Villa were credited with interest in the Colombia international last summer. Eventually, the club turned instead to Nicolas Jackson.

Viveros has since caught fire in Brazil, and he is now the leading scorer in Brazil’s Série A, a run of form that has revived interest in the move Villa considered months ago. The story was first set out in a Birmingham Mail report on Kevin Viveros, which detailed the club’s early scouting work before the Jackson deal was completed.

Villa’s move for Viveros never advanced beyond that early interest. The club prioritised Jackson as their main summer signing up front, and that decision left Viveros at Athletico Paranaense, where he has gone on to produce the best form of his career.

His numbers this season are the reason his name has resurfaced among Villa supporters. There is nothing, though, to suggest fresh talks between the two clubs.

Contract status at Athletico Paranaaense

Kevin Viveros is 26 years old and plays for Athletico Paranaense in Brazil, where he is under contract until 2027 with a club option to extend that deal by a further 12 months. Any move away from the Brazilian club would need to involve them directly, given that contractual position.

The Colombia international made his senior debut this year in a 1-1 draw with Mexico, a landmark that reflected his rising profile in South American football. He has carried that recognition into outstanding club form, and is currently the top scorer in Brazil’s Série A with 18 goals in 26 league matches this season. The interest that emerged last summer, though, predates this current run of form.

Upcoming schedule and forward options at Villa Park

Villa’s forward options currently centre on Jackson, with the rest of the squad sharing competition and backup roles as the season develops. Viveros remains outside that picture for now, with his focus on Athletico Paranaense’s Série A campaign rather than any move to the Premier League.

Villa considered several attacking profiles before settling on Jackson, a subject covered in our earlier report on the club’s transfer targets. Viveros’s contract situation in Brazil means any future move would depend on Athletico Paranaense’s own plans, and on interest from other clubs across Europe.
