Aston Villa aren’t short of options in the engine room with Douglas Luiz, Marvelous Nakamba, John McGinn and Morgan Sanson at their disposal, but 90min say the Villans could bring in another midfielder when the winter transfer window opens.
Georginio Wijnaldum has an uncertain future at Paris Saint-Germain after struggling for consistent playing time this season and has been offered to Newcastle United, Everton Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Leicester City among others.
Villa are one of the clubs that are open to loaning him in January, but it remains to be seen if they can beat out all the competition. Wijnaldum earns £300k-per-week at PSG and has big European clubs considering a move, so would Villa really be his preferred destination? Fans on social media had a mixed reaction.
The 31-year-old joined PSG on a free transfer from Liverpool over the summer and has gone on to make 20/24 appearances in all competitions, but he’s started only 50% of the matches and amassed 944 minutes of football from a possible 2160.
Wijnaldum wants more opportunities and appears willing to move away from the Parc des Princes to get them. Some fans are open to Villa trying to sign him while others don’t believe he’s worth the outlay. Time will tell if Steven Gerrard does pursue the former Liverpool player.
