Aston Villa confirmed on Sunday morning that Kaine Kesler Hayden has returned to the Midlands following his short-term spell at Swindon Town. The 19-year-old joined the Robins on a season-long loan in August and impressed so much in League Two that Villa have cut the move short.
Kesler, who has made 23 appearances for Villa’s U18s, 20 appearances for the U23s and once in the first-team, featured 21 times for Swindon and looks more than ready to step up. The England U20 international could now be used as Matty Cash’s backup or to be loaned out to a Championship club. Fans on social media are excited either way, as Kesler’s future looks bright.
The 19-year-old put in a brilliant performance in Swindon’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester City and Villa acted quickly. Cash has been a regular at right-back, so it’s highly unlikely his place is at risk, but Kesler would provide a great secondary option if Steven Gerrard wanted to hand him sporadic first-team opportunities.
It’s more likely, however, that he’ll be loaned out to a better club than Swindon. Playing fourth tier football seems beneath Kesler, so he might be sent to a second tier side instead now.
