Journalists say ‘classy’ Iroegbunam ‘looked the part’ v Norwich

Aston Villa condemned Norwich City to relegation after beating them 2-0 on Saturday afternoon and Tim Iroegbunam was one of many players who impressed. The 18-year-old started at the base of a midfield containing Jacob Ramsey and John McGinn but didn’t look out of place.

Iroegbunam was tenacious in winning the ball back and showed composure in possession to find teammates. His influence in front of the back four helped Villa keep a clean sheet and stopped Teemu Pukki getting a shot away over the 90 minutes.

John Townley of Birmingham Live gave the midfielder a player rating of 7/10 and said he ‘looked the park’ against Norwich. Townley called Iroegbunam ‘classy’ and believes Steven Gerrard will be ‘impressed’ with what he saw.

Toby Cudworth of 90min gave Iroegbunam a player rating of 6/10 and called his full Premier League debut ‘steady’. Cudworth noted that the 18-year-old was rash with his tackling at times, however.

Against Norwich, Iroegbunam played for 72 minutes, had 24 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 81.3% of his 16 passes, had one shot, made three tackles, had one interception, gave away two fouls and had one clearance.

The 18-year-old has made three senior appearances for Villa since joining from West Bromwich Albion last summer.
