Aston Villa Women Target Juventus Defender Mathilde Harviken

Aston Villa Women have been handed a fresh defensive transfer line after Norway international Mathilde Harviken was linked with a move from Juventus.

Soccerdonna, citing Mauro Munno, reports that Harviken is expected to join Villa despite being under contract with Juventus until 2027. Villa are said to have agreed to pay her buy-out clause to land the centre-back.

The claim arrives after a busy week for Natalia Arroyo’s squad. Villa confirmed the signing of Norwegian midfielder Justine Kielland from Wolfsburg on 3 July, subject to visa approval.

ReadAstonVilla has already covered how Kielland’s arrival gives Villa Women another composed midfield option. Harviken would extend the same recruitment lane into defence.

Harviken Would Add Defensive Balance

Harviken brings a different profile to the recent midfield additions.

When Juventus signed her from Rosenborg in January 2025, the Italian club described her as a centre-back comfortable on both feet. They also highlighted her physical and athletic qualities, plus her senior international experience with Norway.

For Arroyo, that profile would fit a clear squad need. Villa have already added midfield power and attacking depth this summer. A left-sided defensive option with Norway pedigree would give the side a stronger platform before the new WSL campaign.

The wider pattern is hard to miss. Villa are targeting proven Nordic internationals, prime-age profiles and players with enough tactical range to raise the floor quickly.

Harviken is not a confirmed Villa player yet, so the deal still needs the usual caution. The direction of travel looks coherent, though.

Kielland gives Villa more control in midfield. Harviken would give Arroyo another senior defender who can handle possession, duels and international-level demands.

For Villa, this is more than another incoming rumour. It points to a recruitment plan with a clear geography, age profile and football logic.
