Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from West Ham United, just hours after seeing their opening loan offer rejected.
The 28-year-old is now set to return to the Premier League and provide Unai Emery with another senior option at right-back.
BBC Sport reports that Villa have agreed an initial loan with an obligation to buy Wan-Bissaka at the end of the season.
The DR Congo international has also been given permission to travel to the Midlands to undergo a medical.
Aston Villa agree Aaron Wan-Bissaka transfer
It represents a rapid turnaround in negotiations between Villa and West Ham.
Read Aston Villa reported earlier on Tuesday that West Ham had rejected Villa’s opening loan offer, although Jacob Tanswell stressed at the time that Villa had stepped up their interest rather than walked away.
Only hours later, the clubs have now found an agreement.
The exact financial terms of the obligation are yet to emerge. West Ham had previously been seeking around £25million from clubs interested in signing Wan-Bissaka.
His impending arrival also comes as Villa reshape their options on the right side of Emery’s defence.
Kosta Nedeljkovic has been given permission to join Rangers on a season-long loan containing a £4m obligation to buy.
That leaves Wan-Bissaka set to compete directly with Matty Cash for the right-back position.
The former Manchester United and Crystal Palace defender also brings considerable Premier League experience and remained keen to return to the top flight following West Ham’s relegation.
Provided his medical is completed without issue, Villa now appear to have secured another of Emery’s defensive priorities ahead of Sunday’s Premier League opener against Brighton.
