His position has become clearer following a dramatic 24 hours at Villa Park.

Villa have agreed a deal worth up to £65million for Nicolas Jackson, while Ollie Watkins is heading to Al-Hilal.

Abraham made 17 appearances after returning to Villa last season, scoring three goals, but only started twice in the Premier League.

His campaign was also affected by a shoulder problem which eventually required surgery.

The former Chelsea and Roma striker had hoped to challenge for a bigger role this season, but Jackson’s impending arrival has pushed him further down Emery’s attacking order.

Ipswich can now offer Abraham the regular Premier League football that appears unlikely at Villa Park.

The agreement does not guarantee his departure, however.

Abraham must still give his approval before the loan can be completed, leaving the final decision with the striker.
