Aston Villa sanction deadline-day exit as permanent transfer option revealed

Aston Villa defender Triston Rowe has completed a season-long loan move to Sporting Charleroi, with the Belgian club securing an option to buy the 19-year-old.

Villa officially confirmed Rowe’s departure on Deadline Day, bringing an end to several days of negotiations over his future.

The England youth international had already travelled to Belgium to complete the remaining formalities after agreeing terms with Charleroi.

ReadAstonVilla reported that development on Monday when Rowe jetted to Belgium as the transfer moved towards completion.

The final structure of the transfer has now been revealed.

Triston Rowe leaves Aston Villa with option to buy

Charleroi have confirmed that Rowe joins on loan for the entire 2026/27 season with an option to make the transfer permanent.

The Belgian club also highlighted his ability to operate on either side of the defence.

Rowe spent last season gaining valuable senior experience with Annecy in France.

Charleroi say he made 31 appearances, scoring once and providing two assists, before returning to Villa this summer.

He was subsequently given opportunities by Unai Emery during pre-season but faced significant competition for senior minutes at Villa Park.

The move therefore gives Rowe another opportunity to play regularly at first-team level.

It also carries greater long-term significance than a straightforward development loan.

Should Rowe impress in Belgium, Charleroi now have a route to signing him permanently.

That detail was not known when Villa’s move negotiations were initially reported and provides an important conclusion to a transfer saga we had deliberately held at the travel stage until the full terms became clear.

Rowe becomes another departure during an extraordinary summer of change at Villa, which has already seen Unai Emery’s squad rebuilt across several key positions.

For the 19-year-old, attention now turns towards establishing himself in the Belgian top flight.
