Aston Villa suffered their fifth consecutive Premier League defeat on Friday evening, losing 1-0 to Southampton at St Mary’s, and Axel Tuanzebe was one of many players who underperformed.
The 23-year-old was culpable for Saints’ winning goal, was given a player rating of 3/10 from Birmingham Live and was singled out for criticism by supporters on social media.
Against Southampton, Tuanzebe played for 90 minutes, had 35 touches, picked up a booking, won two aerial duels, completed 82.8% of his 29 passes, made two tackles, gave away two fouls and had two clearances.
The former England U21 international was caught napping for Adam Armstrong’s goal and didn’t have a good evening on the South Coast. His place may be up for grabs when Villa face Brighton & Hove Albion after the November international break.
Tuanzebe has made nine appearances in all competitions this season and has tasted defeat in his last three outings. The last clean sheet he helped keep for Villa came all the way back in September. Dean Smith’s men go into the weekend 15th in the table with only 10 points from a possible 33.
