Aston Villa got one over their old manager on Tuesday evening, beating his Norwich City side 2-0 at Carrow Road. The Villans picked up their fourth win in six games and Matty Cash was lauded for his performance against the Canaries, so much so that fans on social media showered him in praise.
The 24-year-old was outstanding on the night, whipping a number of balls into the box, frequently getting fouled while trying to drive with the ball from deep and creating opportunities in the final third. He was also diligent in his defensive duties and given a player rating of 8/10 by Birmingham Live as a result.
Against Norwich, Cash played for 90 minutes, had 70 touches, completed 80.6% of his 36 passes, created two chances, had one shot, whipped in four crosses with 25% accuracy, made three tackles, blocked one shot, had one interception, gave away two fouls, had one successful dribble and won four freekicks.
The 24-year-old has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal. He’s been a regular for Villa in his second year at the club and now a regular for the Poland national team too. Cash has been outstanding since coming to the Premier League and continues to shine under Steven Gerrard.
