Mbaye and Jackson combine for Senegal

Villa’s attacking pair supplied the decisive moment in Senegal’s victory over Ethiopia on Tuesday.

Jackson released Mbaye for the only goal after 11 minutes. Le Soleil’s report, carried by SenePlus, describes a difficult second half as Senegal protected their advantage.

The result followed their opening 1-1 draw with Mozambique, in which Jackson scored.

Manzambi and McGinn experience contrasting nights

Manzambi played 63 minutes as Switzerland won 3-0 at Hampden Park. McGinn completed the match for Scotland, whose task became considerably harder following Jack Hendry’s early dismissal.

Our Manzambi and McGinn match assessment covers the key incidents and reaction.

Scotland next visit North Macedonia on 3 October before hosting Slovenia on 6 October.

Lindelöf assists against Cash’s Poland

Lindelöf helped create Benjamin Nygren’s early opener in Sweden’s 3-1 victory over Poland.

Cash threatened at the other end, but Sweden scored twice after the interval to secure the points.

Read our report on Lindelöf’s assist and Cash’s Poland appearance.

Sweden’s remaining fixtures are away to Bosnia and Herzegovina on 2 October and Romania on 5 October.

Ruggeri makes his Italy debut

Ruggeri started Italy’s 4-1 victory over Turkey after missing the matchday squad against Belgium.

The appearance marked his first senior international cap following a late call-up to replace Federico Dimarco.

Our Ruggeri debut report explains his involvement in Italy’s victory.

Zion Suzuki helps Japan reach the Kirin Cup final

Zion Suzuki kept a clean sheet against Ecuador on Thursday 1 October before saving a decisive penalty in Japan’s shootout victory.

The match finished goalless, with the Aston Villa goalkeeper then denying Castillo as Japan converted all five of their penalties.

AS’s match report identifies Suzuki’s intervention as the decisive moment.

It follows his second-half return against Venezuela on Monday, after a rib problem disrupted the start of his international break.

The additional playing time is encouraging for Villa ahead of the Premier League return against Brentford on 10 October.

Wan-Bissaka helped DR Congo beat Zimbabwe 2-1 after their opening victory over Equatorial Guinea.

The result gave the Leopards six points from two qualifying matches.
