Aston Villa kept their sixth clean sheet of the season after beating Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon. The Midlands outfit hadn’t shut out a side in the Premier League since mid-December and Tyrone Mings was to thank for keeping the Toffees quiet.
No Villa player blocked more shots or made more clearances than Mings. The 28-year-old won more aerial duels than any other defender too, so he was deserving of his 8/10 player rating from Birmingham Live. Mings was showered in praise by fans on social media for his overall performance.
Against Everton, Mings played for 90 minutes, had 61 touches, won four aerial duels, completed 64.4% of his 45 passes, created one chance, found a teammate with five of his 13 long-range balls, made one tackle, blocked two shots, made one interception, had five clearances, gave away two fouls and won one freekick.
The England international has made 20 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal with one assist. He was a regular under Dean Smith and has remained a regular under Steven Gerrard. Performances against Everton are exactly why, so fans will hope he can replicate such form when Leeds come to Villa Park next month.
